Thanks to the generosity of Woodmen of the World, and in keeping with its long-standing tradition of giving American flags all over the country, a new American flag will be waving over Restored Hope for years to come starting this summer. A new flag pole was installed June 4 at Restored Hope’s premises at 24th & Howard. The new pole now awaits the American flag which will be presented by Woodmen of the World and dedicated at a ceremony to be held in conjunction with Restored Hope’s open house event on Flag Day, June 14. This is an excellent opportunity to show your kids the importance of Flag Day as the day we honor the American flag and all it stands for. Bring them down for the ceremony at 10a on Saturday, June 14.

Restored Hope to Launch New Coalition

In recognition of the vital role that churches and corporate/civic philanthropic organizations play in supporting our ministry, Restored Hope is creating the Restored Hope Coalition. The coalition will provide a structure through which Restored Hope can interact with and involve representatives of Omaha area churches and philanthropic groups in setting the strategic direction of our ministry. The Coalition will also provide a direct conduit through which Restored Hope can get its message out to church congregations and employee bases in the area. Restored Hope plans to create a Coalition advisory board made up of representatives of member churches and corporations which will provide regular input to our board of directors.

If you’re interested in getting your church or philanthropic organization involved in the Restored Hope Coalition, contact Edna Brooks at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. New Executive Director Appointed

Restored Hope is pleased to announce that it has appointed Edna Brooks-Pittman as its new Executive Director.   A former public servant with extensive experience with both civic and charitable organizations focused on women, race minorities and low income families, Ms. Brooks-Pittman was called by the Restored Hope Board of Directors in October, 2008.  Her background in areas and issues that very closely relate to Restored Hope's mission makes her uniquely qualified to serve as its Executive Director.

A native Nebraskan, Brooks-Pittman spent time living in Wisconsin and Washington state before returning home to Omaha in 2005.  She holds a Masters degree in Public Administration from the University Nebraska-Omaha and has extensive work experience in civic and public service.  Ms. Brooks-Pittman has held numerous positions, both professionally and as a volunteer, focused on the interests and needs of women and race minorities with particular emphasis in the areas of education, civil rights and health care.   Her past experience includes work as an educator, public administrator, grant writer and community liaison with local government agencies and school districts.  She has an extensive resume as a volunteer, serving non-profit organizations such as the NAACP, Urban League, United Way and League of Women Voters, among others.

"When I was first introduced to the people at Restored Hope, I could see how concerned they were about helping their residents to achieve not only self-sufficiency but also spiritual growth and development," said Ms. Brooks-Pittman.  "With my background in public administration, housing and community development, my hope is to help Restored Hope continue to develop a transitional housing model that other organizations in the Omaha area will want to emulate."

Ms. Brooks-Pittman was most recently employed with Creighton University in Omaha as the Director of the university's Bryant Technology Center, a program focused on providing free computer training courses to people in lower income areas in the local community.   While serving as Executive Director for Restored Hope, she will continue to serve in her numerous roles with other local charities and civic organizations and will also continue to work as a substitute teacher for the Council Bluffs school district.
